GLOSSARY CHAPTER 1-2

 Christmas Eve:is the 24th of December, the day before Christmas Day.

Clerk:is a person who works in an office, bank, or law court and whose job is to look after the records or accounts.

nephew:is the son of their sister or brother.

waste:something such as time, money, or energy, you use too much of it doing something that is not important or necessary, or is unlikely to succeed.

kind:If you refer to someone's kind, you are referring to all the other people that are like them or that belong to the same class or set.

leaves:

partner:is the person you are married to or are having a romantic or sexual relationship with.

deadA person, animal, or plant that  is no longer living.

bell: is a device that makes a ringing sound and is used to give a signal or to attract people's attention.

swing:If something swings in a particular direction or if you swing it in that direction, it moves in that direction with a smooth, curving movement.

loudly:If a noise is loud, the level of sound is very high and it can be easly heard. Someone or something that is loud produces a lot of noise

chains:consists of metal rings connected together in a line.

believe:If you believe that something is true, you think that it is true, but you are not sure.

late:Late means near the end of a day,week,year, or other period of time

striking:Something that is striking is very noticeable or unusual.
